#whenigrowup with Tommy's and ASDA
From the 27th August until 16th September 2012 ASDA are running there Baby and Toddler Event across the UK. During the event ASDA will be trying to raise £100,000 for Tommy's from purchases of products including Huggies, Cow & Gate and Pampers. This money will go towards more parent's being able to watch their children grow up.
Tommy's is a charity I have had a lot of support for over the years, not due to an experience but I admire the work in which they do. I have always had a love for children being an only child as my mum struggled to get pregnant with myself. I also have an Aunt who had a still birth and all of this has encouraged me to have an interest on why some babies don't make it, and support in which is needed.
Taken from Tommy's website:
'We exist to save babies' lives by funding research and providing information on the causes and prevention of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth.'
Tommy's are currently having a #whenigrowup theme to help support them so I thought I would tell you a little bit about what I wanted to do when I was growing up...
When I first understood about career's and what I may want to do when I was older I immediately wanted to be a vet. Aswell as my love of children I also love pets. I wanted to help or the sick and injured pets in the world; an unachievable task but I was young and naive. This was until I was informed I would have to work with spiders and creepy crawlies. I quickly changed my mind when I knew about this. I then wanted to follow along similar lines and become a Doctor. This was as I started attending St John Ambulance Cadets and enjoyed it so much. As I started my options in Year Ten, I then changed my mind yet again and wanted to become a Children's Nurse/ NeoNatal Nurse. During my Options I chose Health & Social Care and Child Development as these would give me a better insight into what I wanted to do. I then started college choosing to study ChildCare there. I was informed to maybe change courses but I had already done almost half a year of the course I was on so stayed doing ChildCare. At this point I still really wanted to be a Nurse, but my course was mainly aimed at education however I continued for 2 years. Reality is, I never did become what I wanted to be when I was growing up. Upon leaving college I became a Pharmacy Assistant, I then became a Receptionist in an Opticians, then becoming a Carer looking after the Elderly and Disabled and back to my job as a Receptionist. I then became pregnant with my little boy, which was something I wanted to have #whenigrowup however, not so soon. Jack is the best thing to ever happen to me and in the future I wish to persue what I wanted to do when I was younger and study to become a Children's Nurse or at least help out with Sick Children.
When I look at Jack now, I often wonder what he would like to be when he's older. Will he be like mummy or daddy. He like's destroying things at present and loves car so I think he may like to become a mechanic. We will wait and see when he is older.
Tommy's and Britmums have teamed together and are currently running a #whenigrowup linky. Why not join in and help to support Tommy's
