Cooking with Flora #Cbias

Before I took part in this challenge, my only real knowledge of Flora was they made spreads. In fact we use Flora light on our sandwiches. I knew nothing about the other products in which they make. I had seen the advertisements on the television for Flora Cuisine however I had never used this. However, as someone who enjoys to bake when I have the opportunity I am now glad that I have discovered and used Flora Cuisine.

When I found out I had been chosen to do this as part of the Collective Bias Community, I instantly knew I would like to bake something that all of us could enjoy. Initially I chose to bake the Apple Spice Muffins, I love apple spice, the scent reminds me of my Grandpa and Christmas. However when I was browsing around my local ASDA store for the ingredients I was unable to find most of the much needed ingredients. Therefore whilst we continued to browse around the store, in fact the clothes I decided to view the Flora website and choose a new recipe, again one which we could all enjoy. I therefore decided we would bake some Banana and Almond Muffins to enjoy as a family. I had never tried Banana and Almond Muffins before, so what better time to try them when also trying Flora Cuisine.

Before we had set out to come to the store, I had checked the ingredients needed for the previous muffins to see if I had any within the cupboards. Therefore when looking at the Banana and Almond  Muffin recipe I cross-checked the lists to see if any of the ingredients we already had at home. We didn't, in fact the only ingredient we did have was the Banana, I knew this as I only purchased some fresh the day previous.

Once we had whizzed through the store and got back home, I set out to make the muffins straight away. I knew this would be a lovely activity for the afternoon with Jack, and one he would be able to enjoy afterwards too. I measured out all of the ingredients we needed, and followed the recipe from the Flora website.
350g Self Raising Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
85g Light Soft Brown Sugar
85g Flora Buttery or 85ml Flora Cuisine
1 Large Banana
55g Flaked Almonds
2 Medium Eggs
150ml Natural Low Fat Yoghurt
150ml Semi-Skimmed Milk

1. Sieve the flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl, add the remaining ingredients and mix very lightly. (Mix does not have to be smooth)
2. Spoon the mixture into 12 muffin tins. (Lined with paper cases if desired)
3. Bake in a preheated oven at 200ºC, 180ºC fan, gas mark 6 for 20-25minutes.
4. Best Served Warm.

I had  a little help from Jack with the mixing but he soon got bored, I can assure you he doesn't take after me. I checked on the muffins after 20minutes, and upon checking them they weren't ready so I placed them back into the oven to cook for longer. This then resulted in a little over cooking.

Once they had cooled a little I set out for Jack and I to have one as an afternoon snack, despite them being a little brown they still tasted delicious. Once Ashley had come home from work he also tried one and thought they were nice. These were baked on Friday Afternoon and by Sunday Afternoon they have all gone. These muffins were very tasty and I feel using the Flora Cuisine helped towards this. I will definitely be using Flora Cuisine again for future recipes.

From using Flora Cuisine I have learnt some great facts about the product. Flora Cuisine is high in Omega 3 and has 45% less saturated fat than in Olive Oil.

  1. Really interesting to see you can get baking powder in sachets now - that's such a good idea as we always end up with a big tub of it that we don't use and that goes stale.
