Smellessence Scented Books

Smellessence Scented Books

We were recently sent a selection of 5 books from Autumn Publishing from their Smellessence range. We received 4 of the Splotz collection and also Theo from the Scentsational story books collection.

Theo at The Park is the first Smellessence book launched by Autumn Publishing, and is a truly amazing one. It is written by Jaclyn Crupi and illustrated by Aurélia Verdoux. It consists of 24 pages, and is recommended for children 3+. The story is about a little dog called Theo who looses his sense of smell, he therefore traces back his steps to retrieve his sense of smell. Children interact with the book throughout by smelling the different pages and helping Theo along the way. The scents upon the pages are very pleasant, and strong enough for you to smell. Some of the scents are a little mixed together however you are still able to differentiate them. I loved the illustrations within this book as they were very bright and eye catching for children, and Jack enjoyed pointing at each item.
Theo at the Park retails at £6.99 and 10p from the sale of each book goes to The Dogs Trust.

We received four of the Splotz collection, there is a total of 8 of these books. Each of the books have 24 pages and are small in size, again they are recommended from 3+. We received blossom, splitz, ice and bubbles. Each of the books are written by Smiritti Prasadam-Halls and illustrated by David Boyle. Each of the Splotz characters are bright and very eye-catching to children. Each of the books feature a varying font size throughout, most of the text is small with a few larger sizes. Each of the Splotz books are laid out the same and the story is to watch out incase they go 'Splotz'. Eventually at the end of the book they all do this, but I won't tell you how. When the characters explode this is when you get the real joy as each character has a different scent. The books are written in a rhyming format which I feel keeps the child engaged. Also, each of the characters has an individual catchphrase - again this encourages the child as they quickly learn it and get involved. Finally the books also come with two pages of scented stickers - which of course children love. Each of the books have an RRP of £2.99 which I feel is very reasonable. Below I have listed information about each of the four books we reviewed.

Blossom is a very shy character, her scent is cherry.
Splitz is very energetic and loves to dance, his scent is banana.
Ice is the coolest character, his scent is mint.
Bubbles is a giggly and energetic character, her scent is bubblegum.

Please Note. I received these products from Autumn Publishing for the purpose of this review, all opinions and wording are my own
