Bedtime Update with Johnsons 3-Step Routine

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I posted about our bedtime routine and how I hoped for better. I also said I would be trying out the JOHNSON’S® 3-Step Bedtime Routine, which I did on the second week so now I’m back to report.

For the first week we followed our usual bedtime routine which consists of around 3 nights a week having a bath and a splash around on the other days it’s just a wash and teeth brushing. We then following this by having a quiet story providing Jack has been well behaved and tucked into bed. Of course this doesn’t always go to plan but that’s how it is. Following the story I then feed Isla and hope she stays asleep for a while. For the second week we introduced the JOHNSON’S® products we had been sent and also introduced a massage for Isla before I fed her. We didn’t do any more baths than usual only changing our routine on the days with baths, although I did put a couple more sneaky massages in for Isla on a couple of the nights.

As I do bath times alone, I did sometimes find it hard to spend extra time on a massage for Isla, Jack will happily play in the bath but on the odd occasion he asks to come out, once during the week he didn’t want to stay in the bath making me feel as though I rushed the massage.

Introducing a massage into the routine before the quiet story, I found really enjoyable. I enjoyed watching her smiles throughout the massage, seeing her happy and calm was comforting for me. Every evening I always feed Isla to sleep, it’s what I’ve always done, however it’s more a comfort suck I did find that she wasn’t suckling for as long, The nights, in which I did the massage and bath, I found that Isla slept a little longer, roughly around half hour longer. I don’t know if this was a co-incidence or effects from the massage.

During this second week, Jack had one evening where he didn’t have a story on this evening; I played some gentle lullabies in the background.

I think the JOHNSON’S® 3-Step Bedtime Routine possibly would have worked better for us if I could have spent time with just Isla. I’m happy with how it worked for us but I feel it could of gone better if I was able to spend more time on the whole routine. I’m going to continue using the JOHNSON’S® 3-Step Bedtime Routine and try and make time to spend the extra time with Isla.

Sponsored blog post by the JOHNSON’S® brand. I have received payment incentive and samples but all opinions are my own. JOHNSON’S® clinically proven bedtime routine consists of bath, massage and quiet time, tested on babies 7 months+, 1 week+ use.
