My First Scalextric is the perfect introductory set for children aged 3-5 years. It's a 1:64 scale figure of eight track featuring two rally cars and adjustable hand controls which are colour coded to match the chevrons on the track and cars. To set up the track Jack needed help, which was simple to achieve, all the chevrons face the same direction which made it easier than working out the difference pieces. The controllers and power just plug into place and away you go. The track is power operated which makes it easier than finding any batteries.
Jack found powering the cars really easy, although he did come off the track a few times. After lots of practice, he did manage to keep the cars on the track for longer periods of time. Unlike the track at his grandparents house, he was able to pick up the cars and place them back on himself, even picking up those of his opponents too.
Due to the wires, there is only certain places you can sit to avoid them getting in the way, but you soon learn.
Jack is at the upper age limit of this, and whilst I feel he really enjoyed it, I feel he maybe wanted some different shaped race tracks to use his skills further. The track has an RRP of £34.99, and would make a perfect toy for those aged 3 plus.
Please Note: I received this set in exchange for an honest review, all words and opinions are my own.
