Feeding Raw with Poppy's Picnic | A Review

For a while I have been thinking of changing the dogs diet to raw - mainly Dottie's but eventually change over for both dogs. So when contacted by Poppy's Picnic to see if we would like to try out and review their raw food I thought what a better time.

Poppy's Picnic has only been around for just over a year, but they are already making huge impressions around. They are based in Wiltshire and was formed by Dylan and his miniature schnauzer Poppy. Having been fed regular highly processed commercial foods, Poppy was having digestive problems and finding a food which didn't cause her problems was seeming difficult. That's when Poppy's Picnic was created after researching, developing and perfecting recipes over the years with the help of experts. Poppy's Picnic is made from 100% natural ingredients, if it's good enough for humans then it's good enough for dogs.

I have continuously worried about Dottie from the moment I got her, Dalmatians are prone to having problems if not looked after correctly and I didn't want that to happen. I wanted the best for her and ensure everything she gets is high quality.

We received a selection of the minces from Poppy's Picnic in the form of their Trial Hamper. This contained 2 x Chicken & Tripe Complete, 2 x Chicken & Bone Complete, 2 x Beef & Bone Complete, 2 x Beef & Tripe Complete, 2 x Lamb & Tripe Complete and 2 x Lamb & Bone Complete.

Now I will admit, I was a little worried about the smell, especially as I don't like tripe, but it wasn't too bad on the nose.

Dottie absolutely loved the mince meals from Poppy's Picnic, polishing them off quicker than I could possibly imagine. The meals were of high quality as you would expect from a high quality mince mix. The food requires storage within a freezer until you come to use it, it is sent within a insulated box and providing it doesn't reach above a certain temperature it is fine We had troubles with our first delivery and trust me it was stinky, but our second one arrived in one piece and straight into the freezer with no problems. Each package is clearly labelled what is inside and the content, including the bone content which you don't always see.

When speaking with Dylan before receiving the foods we were talking about poop - I know what an amazing subject and I didn't realise that actually Dottie's were not great. I am pleased to report that they have indeed improved and are back to a normal consistency now.

I found the price of the food, more so in the hampers to be competitive with the larger suppliers, and as the quality is amazing I don't mind paying the few extra per KG in exchange for the higher quality. The postage also depends on the weight of food you order, but of course is delivered the next day (if ordered before 10am Mon-Thurs) so you need to take this into consideration.

I will definitely be purchasing more from Poppy's Picnic for Dottie in the hope it helps keep her young, fit and healthy.

Please Note: I received a trial hamper in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and not influenced in any way.
