Animal Shapes from Orchard Toys | A Review

When purchasing something new for the children, I ideally look for something which encourages learning through play. Over the years I've found making learning fun has helped it all to stick in. Isla is now at the stage where she is constantly wanting to learn new things, especially when she sees Jack doing his homework or school reading. So recently when we were asked if we would like to review the Animal Shapes game from Orchard Toys I knew it would be a great fit for her.

Orchard Toys is a brand we've come to love over the years, Jack getting many of there products over previous special occasions, and now Isla starting her collection too.

Animal Shapes is a simple colour and shape matching activity introducing children to a range of colours, shapes and animals. Designed for children 18months+ its a great way to introduce these from an early age.

Within the box there are a mix of house pets, farm animals and sea creatures, all in recognisable colours too. Within the shapes again there is a wide range from your standard circle, triangle and square, to those less common such as trapezoid. The shapes and animals are made of a strong stiff card which so far we've had no problems with. Both the cards and shape are of a large size to enable even small hands to play with and manoeuvre.

There are many ways in which this game can be played, by naming the colours, naming the shapes and naming the animals or you can match the shapes and animals together. The game can be played on their own or with others recommended for up to four players. Isla was happy to play with this on her own and happily sat matching everything up and then popping them back out.

As I mentioned earlier, I always go for toys with educational benefits and this Animal Shapes game has many. It encourages hand eye co-ordination, colour recognition along with shape recognition. We also found it would encourage speech and language as we spoke about the different colours, animals and shapes. Overall, this is a game we really enjoyed there are so many different possibilities in how to play.

Please Note: We received this game in exchange for an honest and impartial review however all words and opinions are my own and not influenced in any way.
