Rose and Crown Wolverhampton, A Sizzling Pubs Review [#AD]

Wednesday, 29 May 2019
Recently we were invited along to the Rose and Crown, which is a Sizzling Pubs franchise located in Wolverhampton. I'd never heard of this restaurant, despite is only being around 30 minutes drive from where I live.

Before attending, I was informed the restaurant reopened back in December after undergoing a refurbishment. When we attended this was clear to see, as everywhere looked so bright and fresh.

Rose and Crown Wolverhampton, A Sizzling Pubs Review

On arrival, we headed over to the bar where we were informed of the table reserved for us. Sizzling Pubs are normally 'find a table and sit down restaurants', but reservations can be made. On our entrance, I could see a few tables had been reserved from a set time for the quiz night which they were having that evening, however, these tables could still be used before this time.
We attended at 6.30pm on a Thursday evening, and whilst there were lots of people there, there was still a range of tables left for visitors, showing how popular this location can be. However, by the time we left, we were able to see just how popular their quiz evening is as it was beginning to get really busy.

When at our table, we set to look at the menu, the menu had a wide choice of meals, ranging from smaller appetite meals to those larger meals too, and the kid's menu was ideal too. Once meal choices have been made, its simple to order by just going up to the bar and placing your order.

There is a wide range of meals, from your classics, burgers and sizzling grills to your light bites. Whilst waiting for our meals, one of the waitresses came over brought over some colouring sheets and crayons for the children to enjoy.

We opted for the super green salad topped with grilled rump steak, the triple hunter and a classic mixed grill. The meals did take a little while to come out, but nothing longer than that I would usually expect. Each of the meals came out at temperatures we would expect and full of flavour.

The only comment we would have to make about the food was the classic mixed grill we asked for 'well done' and it did come out looking very well done. Also, it would have been nice to have the option to have the salad with extra meat if wanted but unfortunately you couldn't.

We've been to Sizzling Pubs before, and each time we visit I always rave about the kid's menu, and this time was no different. The menu for children has options for those under 5 and over 5, with the choice to have just a meal or consider the offer which gets you a main meal, dessert and drink.  For children's meals, both chose from the Over 5's menu, having cheese and tomato pizza and a build your own chicken wrap. Isla had initially chosen to have the travel-shaped pasta bolognese, but unfortunately, the restaurant had run out of the pasta, but they were quick enough in informing us to which she made an alternate choice.

I absolutely love deserts, and when we go out for food, I always manage to leave space in my 'dessert stomach' to fit one in. We all opted for one, with the children both having build your own sundae. For us adults, we opted for vanilla and caramel cheesecake, treacle sponge and the honeycomb explosion sundae. We found the honeycomb sundae was very very sweet.

Overall, we had a lovely meal at the Rose and Crown, with excellent service, it was kind on the pennies too.
