Marmalade celebrates his 10,001st birthday at intu Merry Hill with Andy Day | Review [#AD]

Monday, 10 June 2019
Last weekend, intu Merry Hill's mascot, Marmalade the Mammoth celebrated his 10,001st birthday, his first birthday as the centre's mascot. To celebrate intu Merry Hill threw a huge party to celebrate.

The party was all happening on the lower mall, with a Marmalade party zone located near the customer services desk. Throughout the day there were birthday cupcakes on offer, a balloon photo wall and a book stand where you could pick up your own free copy of 'Where's Marmalade?', a book created for the event.

The celebrations for Marmalade's birthday began with a birthday march through the centre, with none other than Andy Day. The first celebration we missed as we were sitting awaiting the story time planned, but we managed to catch one of the others taking place throughout the day where Isla got excited to see her favourite giant orange woolly mammoth strolling through the centre.

Within the party zone, celebrates took place with Andy Day, famous for his dinosaur adventures, who officially offered the first reading of the 'Where's Marmalade?' storybook to eager children. After reading the story, Andy performed his infamous 'Dino Rap', which consisted of raps about different dinosaurs and he even got everyone in the audience involved.

Both Jack and Isla loved Andy's performance, joining in with the raps, waving their flags and by some miracle sitting still with amazement throughout the story.

Along with the performance by Andy Day, throughout the day the centre had an interactive Marmalade racing game on the centre's giant 230" big screen, which children, or adults, could join in the fun using their own mobile phones as controllers.

Over the past year, I've found on my visits to intu Merry Hill, some exciting changes have taken place, and with the introduction of the family club last year I've found there to be a lot more exciting things happening for the children - especially in the school holidays when more children are likely to be visiting with their families. intu Merry Hill are always finding unique experiences, to instil joy into the shoppers every day and with the addition of the events for children, it makes shopping with children a whole lot easier.

intu Merry Hill is one of the largest and most popular retail destinations in the Midlands and in my opinion the easiest to park at, with almost 200 retailers available under one roof. Not only do you have a wide range of shops there are places to eat and drink too, making it an ideal meeting place.
